Something We Learned this Week

CARRY YOUR SHOULDERS

If you’re a runner this may make a major difference for your running economy and overall speed.

I carry a lot of weight in my upper body. My shoulders are broad and my biceps and triceps carry some mass. This week, while experimenting with my running form, I found that if I “carried my shoulders” instead of letting them slam down with the rest of my weight on every down step I was able get way more propulsion.

It prevents me from having to pick up extra weight I don’t need to and lead to a ~15-20 second improvement in mile pace at equal excursion.

I’ve made sure not to be too tight in my shoulders so that I’m not causing unnecessary tension but so far the results have been pretty profound.

Monarx Update

Recommendation of the Week

An in depth discussion on the how to regulate your metabolism to bulk and cut.

“Be a hero in delivery, not in commitment.”

In life, it’s better to remain inconspicuous and then deliver something slightly above average. Consistently leaving a positive impression is key. If you overpromise, you risk running out of road.

Delivering something average when expectations were low leaves a better impression than delivering something above average when expectations were exceptionally high.

Chasing kudos for promises you haven’t fulfilled yet can be a set up for disappointment.
