Something We Learned this Week
In addition to a reduced perceived effort, Caffeine can actually help preserve glycogen stores and encourage your body to burn fat for energy instead of carbs.
Recommendation of the Week
Quitters are winners.
Sometimes, we become so tunnel-visioned that we fail to see if we are achieving any results.
With the presidential debates over the past week and subsequent calls for Biden to drop out of the race, Biden’s resilience, determination, and desire for service have shifted from virtues to monumental flaws. Caught up in his own hubris, he has lost the ability to read the room and be self-aware.
Biden has served over 50 years in public office and should take this opportunity to step down, riding off into the sunset and being celebrated as a patriot for his lifelong service. Unfortunately, he seems set on becoming the antagonist in his own story and ours. As the saying goes, “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
There is nothing wrong with quitting when you’re ahead. Having a “buy low and sell high” strategy for life is a virtue. It takes a lot of self-awareness to know when to hang up your jersey on certain projects. What you don’t want is to be the last person at the party, caught with your hand in the cookie jar.
The shadow form of discipline and determination is getting in over your head and wasting your time and energy on something unrealistic. Quitting when your your efforts have a decreasing margin of return is not a failure; it’s a strategic retreat. It’s about recognizing the moment when persistence turns into stubbornness and when continuing to push forward does more harm than good.
Knowing when to walk away requires wisdom and courage. It’s about understanding that success isn’t always about pushing through every obstacle, but also about knowing when to pivot, adapt, or let go. This is true not only in politics but in all areas of life. Sometimes, the greatest victory is knowing when to move on.
