Something We Learned this Week

Recommendation of the Week

My boss, in his late 40s, is currently tackling a master's in artificial intelligence and machine learning at Georgia Tech. I was speaking with him earlier this week and he was a bit uneasy and on edge. It’s finals week.

After telling me how he was struggling with juggling life, and school. I asked him what for? He already has done pretty well for himself and he has no plans of making a major career move post graduation. So why was he putting himself through this?

Mind you my boss is one of the sharpest people I’ve ever met. When problem solving, he gets from A-F before everyone else gets to B. But he said his recent academic pursuit was in search for his younger smarter self. Someone he knew who could pick up concepts faster and rationalize with ease. He wanted to find out if really still had it like he used to. A bit defeated he admitted that this was the most he had ever struggled in his life.

he had a piece of advice as he realized he was no longer who he remembered he was in the classroom. Citing a paper he recently read, he said that “You will nail most of your professional accomplishments before the age of 30 and I wish I would’ve worked harder in that time”.

If you’re around my age and knew that the next few years would be your sharpest, most energized, and filled with opportunity, what would you do?What’s the hardest thing you’ve always wanted to do in life? How do you want to contribute?
